Been a while…

Ok, update to last post, I did get the Eris and I’m happy with it. Although, finding out that its on the chopping block doesn’t make me very happy. All I really want is the 2.1 update and I’m set. This update is the only thing keeping me from having Google navigation. I could root the thing but I’m not gonna sacrifice my only phone for it.

In other news…
I’ll be posting to more often since I have this platform to rant.

Being inspired by a post on Smashing Magazine about designing something everyday and reading some of the challenges and benefits of doing something like that. I’ve decided to embark on a year long challenge of taking a photo everyday.

Goals

  • Shoot anything
  • Shoot with phone, point and shoot and my slr
  • Try to incorporate some kind of theme into a group of shots
  • Most important, make sure I post everyday!

I have no idea what I’m getting myself into, but I think it’ll be a fun project and hopefully teach me a few things about photography, updating a blog everyday and myself. Definitely looking forward to starting on Jan 1st.

It’s official…

Hollywood is out of original ideas!

Article from Ars reports that there was actually a bidding war over the rights to produce a movie based on Asteroids. Really!? This was a great game in its day, but that’s all it was, a game. There’s no plot and no characters except for maybe the pilot of the triangle space ship and the aliens in the flying saucers. How they’ll write a full length movie from this will be interesting and sad to see?

Another color selector app

Similar to Adobe’s Kuler, ColoRotate offers a similar interface but adds an interesting 3D color cone. Little too fancy for me but an interesting alternative to Kuler. There’s an extension offered for CS applications for $39 and $2.50/month subscription to link your color palettes to your online account. Not sure why anyone would want to pay for something like this when Adobe offers it for free.

Yeah…

It still amazes me that there are large companies that still use IE6. Is it really that hard to update to a new version of the browser or train your employees to do normal system updates? Blame the IT dept?

Venting….

Social Networking Getting out of Hand

An interesting site was just sent to me from a co-worker and shows just how much social networking is being, in my opinion, over used. The site is skittles.com and what they’ve done is used their Facebook, Wikipedia, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr accounts as their main content. Weird, but an interesting approach to completely loosing your brand in a social networking black hole. There are a few links that actually have the Skittles brand but are hard to find and not very informative.

Anyone not paying attention would definitely be confused as to where they landed!

Kuler Inspiration

Needing a tool to quickly find a color inspiration, I stumbled upon kuler.com (pronounced cooler) from Adobe. The tool has a large collection of color themes that you can contribute to and edit others themes on the fly. The Flash based UI is easy to navigate and provides plenty of options such as:

  • Upload an image and use selectors to target specific colors within the image
  • Use a color wheel that dynamically changes your selections
  • Enter individual color values for HSV, RGB, CMYK, LAB and even a HEX code

kuler

Another great feature is the extension or Photoshop CS4. Once you’ve created an account (use your current Adobe login) you can export your themes from Photoshop to the kuler website. The panel allows you to browse themes from the site and add themes to your swatch library.

Another one bites the dust

Is anyone really going to miss Circuit City? I haven’t stepped into one of their stores in years and that was only to see if I could find something Best Buy didn’t have in stock. It’s unfortunate for all the people loosing their jobs though!
